Starting Dune: Awakening in October 2026? Decide one thing before anything else: single-player or a multiplayer World. The choice is permanent, and everything else follows from it.
It's a different game from the one that launched. Update 1.5 added full single-player, finished the Book One story and put the game on PS5 and Xbox. Chapter 3 removed base taxes, and the April patch split the Deep Desert into PvE and PvP. Checked against Funcom's 1.5 notes, 8 October.
Single-player or a World?
You pick at first boot, and a single-player character stays in single-player for good. Multiplayer characters can't move in either. So decide on the experience, not the convenience.
Single-player versus Multiplayer World
What changed since launch

Full single-player mode
The whole game, not a trimmed version. Sandstorms, harvest rates, XP, building limits, durability, base decay, sandworm spawns and death drops are all yours to set.

Book One is finished
Seven story arcs from The Fall of the Proteus to The Great Convention Part III, playable in one run. The cliffhanger that frustrated 2025 players is resolved.

PvP is optional
Hagga Basin is fully PvE, shipwrecks included. The Deep Desert has a PvE instance with zero player combat and a PvP instance that pays 2.5x on mining and spice.

Endgame without fighting players
The Landsraad was rebuilt around missions. Five Specialisation tracks and Augmentations for Tier 6 gear give you somewhere to go after Plastanium.

Consoles and Game Pass
PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S since 22 September, on Game Pass with Play Anywhere. Console Worlds are separate from PC Worlds, and cross-play comes later.

Polar Cap
A free survival map at Arrakis' frozen pole with its own biome, resources, craftables and storyline. Funcom says later this year, with no date yet.
Quality of life you'll feel on day one
| Change | Before | Now |
|---|---|---|
| Base taxes | Weekly Solari bill | Gone; power still required |
| Death penalty | 5% durability | 2% durability |
| Lost vehicles | Gone | Recoverable for 30 days |
| Moving house | Rebuild by hand | Base Reconstruction Tool, up to three snapshots |
| Your look | Locked at creation | Re-customise in Arrakeen or Harko Village |
Four mistakes that cost a first week
- Carrying your Solari: coins in your inventory drop on death. Credits in the CHOAM Bank don't. Taxi to a hub and deposit before you do anything risky.
- Ignoring Journeys: they pay XP for things you're doing anyway. Open the tab every session and claim.
- Picking a World your friends aren't on: a World is several Sietches that share a Deep Desert and social hubs. Different World, different game. Check first.
- Driving into the PvP Deep Desert at level 40: the 2.5x yield is for people with endgame vehicles and an exit plan. Start in the PvE instance.
Where to go next
Two things gate everything in this game: your level and your Solari.
- Levelling: the levelling guide covers the route to 200 and why the last 40 levels are the hard part.
- Solari: the Solari guide covers chests, contracts, the Deep Desert and the Exchange.
- Picking a World: the server list has every PC World by region.
- Played before 2026? The returning player guide covers every update since launch and the free Return Package.
- What's next: patch 1.5.15 is on the test server, and the Polar Cap is the next free map.
Rather skip the slow part?
On PC Worlds, we deliver Solari by in-game trade with no login, and our operators level your character by hand to any level up to 200. The FAQ on our Dune: Awakening page covers how both work.
Quick answers
Is Dune: Awakening worth playing in 2026?
Yes, and more so than at launch. The story is complete, PvP is optional, taxes are gone, and you can play entirely alone if you prefer.
Does PC play with console?
Not yet. Funcom has confirmed cross-play for after the console launch and hasn't given a date.
