What the climb looks like
The level cap in Dune: Awakening is 200, and every level gives one skill point. Levels 7 to 100 cost a flat 600 XP each, so the story carries most players through them. From 128 the cost climbs every level, and the last 20 cost 5,297 to 13,126 XP each.
Why the top end is slow
The final 73 levels hold over three quarters of all the XP in the game. Past 150, quests stop being enough: Imperial Testing Stations, Deep Desert content and contracts become the main XP, and the stretch from 180 to 200 is the real grind.
Why order it
Levels are skill points, and skill points are your build: 199 of them for five archetypes' fifteen trees, so every one counts. Everything earned on the way, Solari, resources and gear, stays on your character.
