Driver is the class PC Gamer watched sitting near the top of the cash board with zero kills. Ground vehicles pay it: every teammate you deliver to the Control Zone is 50 Driver XP and $300-$450, with another 50 XP and $500 if they survive about ten seconds after they get out. Push the team's spawn vehicle forward and you're paid for every player who spawns on it. It's steady, it's safe until the vehicle isn't, and it levels alongside your wallet. This guide is the Driver loop, and the two upgrades that change it.
How class XP works in WARDOGS
There's no class select. You have all six tracks - Assault, Medic, Recon, Support, Driver and Pilot - at once, and the one that levels is whichever your gear and actions feed that life. Every weapon, tool and vehicle in the vendor is tagged to exactly one track (hover the tile and it tells you), and every teamplay action pays a specific track too. Your Wardog level isn't a separate bar: it's the six class levels added together, and it's what gates armour, helmets, backpacks, ammo types and the heaviest vehicles.
Two things follow from that. First, the XP follows the item, not your intentions - a "recon player" holding an assault rifle is levelling Assault. Second, since Wardog level is a straight sum and the early levels are cheap, six shallow tracks beat one deep one: Season 1's curve is unchanged below level 6, then slows, with level 10 at 35,000 cumulative XP, 20 at 250,000 and 50 at 1,000,000. Taking every class to 10 costs a fraction of taking one class to 30, and hands you the early unlock on all six ladders.
What the Driver class actually does
- Transport. Carrying teammates from HQ into the Control Zone. Paid on the drop-off, paid again if they live ten seconds.
- The spawn vehicle. Driving the team's spawn vehicle from HQ and parking it inside the zone. It pays a lump on arrival and then a trickle for every spawn and the kill assists that follow.
- Vehicle weapons. Kills from a ground vehicle's mounted weapon or cannon credit Driver, not Assault - which is what makes the tank the fastest Driver route once you can afford to lose it.
The ladder: the armed Kodiak at Driver 6, the Dune Buggy at Driver 8 ($25,000 one-off, then $1,500 per buggy), the six-seat Kodiak Pickup at Driver 10 ($35,000 one-off - it was a Driver 2 unlock in the beta; Season 1 moved it), the Humvee at 15, the Ural Defenders at 18 and 25, and the heavy tank at Driver 35, which is now the last gate on the ladder. Before any of that, the plain Kodiak and the Bobcat need no level at all.
The core Driver loop
Step 1 - Spawn vehicle first. At the start of the match, take the team's spawn vehicle from HQ into the zone and park it somewhere defensible. Every spawn on it pays you for the rest of the match.
Step 2 - Cheapest transport, full load. Buy the cheapest six-seater you can and don't leave HQ until every seat is filled. Six passengers is six drop-offs and six chances at the survival bonus.
Step 3 - Drop inside the zone, not near it. The delivery pays when the passenger is in the Control Zone. Short of it pays nothing.
Step 4 - Carry the repair tool. Repairs pay Support XP while the Driver XP ticks from transport - two tracks from one seat.
Step 5 - Turn around immediately. The vehicle earns nothing parked. Back to HQ, fill it, repeat.
Best XP method for Driver
Early: the taxi loop above, with the spawn vehicle parked. It's the same loop as Pilot with lower risk and lower reward, and it's how you reach Driver 10 for the buggy without a single fight.
Later: the tank. Vehicle-weapon kills credit Driver, so a heavy tank at Driver 35 (around $14,000 a life) turns the track into a combat class with armour - the fastest Driver XP in the game, and the most expensive death. Don't take it out until losing it wouldn't hurt, and don't park it where it'll be IED'd; a stationary tank is an invitation.
What slows Driver: half-empty vehicles, drop-offs short of the zone, and driving a $14,000 tank on a $20,000 balance.
Quick checklist
- Park the spawn vehicle in the zone first
- Cheapest six-seater, every seat full, every trip
- Drop inside the Control Zone - short of it pays nothing
- Repair tool in the vehicle for Support XP on the side
- Dune Buggy at 8, Kodiak Pickup at 10, Humvee at 15, tank at 35 - the plain Kodiak needs no level
- Don't field the tank until you can afford to lose it
FAQ
Do kills from the vehicle count as Assault or Driver? Driver. Any kill from a ground vehicle's mounted weapon or cannon credits Driver. (Artillery is the exception - it credits Support.)
Does the passenger have to survive for me to be paid? No. The drop-off pays 50 XP regardless; the second 50 XP and $500 is a bonus if they live about ten seconds.
Is Driver good for cash? One of the best - transport and the spawn vehicle are top earners. The cash farming guide has the figures.
Why does Driver stop at 35? Season 1 moved the heavy tank to Driver 35 and pulled the armed Urals down to 18 and 25, so the tank is the last Driver unlock where the other tracks run to 50. Levels past that still add to your Wardog level, just with nothing new to buy.
Will these numbers change? Probably. BULKHEAD has said progression beyond the first twenty or so levels will be tuned per season, and the Season 1 curve already differs from the beta's. The per-action values here are community-confirmed as of 12 September 2026; we'll update this guide when a patch moves them.
Want to skip the grind? The Class XP Boost levels Driver for you: pick Driver as the class when you order. We deliver it by logging into your account, which BULKHEAD's rules count as account sharing, so read what that risks first. The loops above earn the same XP with no risk to the account, and everything else we sell for WARDOGS is on the Wardogs page.
